OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)

OCT or Optical Coherence Tomography is the most advanced eye care screening available. We are delighted to be one of only a hand full of opticians in Ireland to offer this screening to our patients in our practice.

This new advancement in eye screening uses state of the art technology to take a 3D scan of the back of your eye – it’s like seening your eyes in HD !

The OCT scanner sees under the retina to parts of the eye that cannot be seen by Digital Retinal Photography alone. An OCT scan allows us to detect any changes to your eye health, including those caused by age related macular degeneraton (AMD), glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, much earlier than by other methods of screening.

The examinaton is completely non-invasive and painless as nothing touches your eye. Our optometrist will discuss the results of the OCT scan during your consultation.

If you would like the OCT scan to be included with your eye examination, please advise at the time of booking your appointment. Currently the extra cost of this examination is not covered by the HSE (medical card) or PRSI optical benefit schemes.
